"However improbable" ... still

Thanks to Hugh Hewitt for the kind notice.

On Saturday (9/11) I posted an item titled "However improbable." It offers a scenario that suggests a possible explanation for Dan Rather's seemingly inexplicable behavior.

The scenario is speculative. I know of no facts that refute it--or that prove it. We can only work with what we have got, and we will see how it plays out.

One more point: this scandal has displayed many instances of gross incompetence and impropriety, and severe lapses in basic professional standards. But there is no evidence that anyone other than the forger intended to act dishonestly. The others only intended an honest hatchet job.
