Today's OED antedating: "to blow"

To blow, to lose needlessly ("blow," v.1, sec 9 (e), first use cited 1943): Item titled "The Truth About the 1919 Series," by Ring Lardner, New York Tribune, October 5, 1920, p 10, col 5, song lyric: "We're forever blowing ballgames ... ." It is a satire of a then-popular song titled "I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles."
